Test Driving Your Next Pre-Owned Car

All pre-owned programs aren't similar, there's Dealer Certified Pre-owned and also Manufacturer Certified. Certified pre-owned cars, like the ones available at Autofocus in Greensboro, NC, are a bit different from your typical used cars on Craig's List because you can assume that these cars have been gone over with a "fine tooth comb." These cars, with over 100-point inspections and a clean driving or accident record, are likely a much more reliable vehicle than Craig's List.
But before you even test drive a Certified Pre-Owned car you should see the inspection report for that particular car. Check and make sure that the VIN (ID Number) on the report matches the car you're looking at.
Even though the car has passed inspection by factory trained technicians, you should still give it a thorough going over before you hop right in. Remember to make sure that the paint on all body panels matches, otherwise the car may have been involved in an accident. If you know a mechanic, or someone who knows cars well, always bring them along with you.
"Check the True Market Value (TMV) price of the car. Edmunds.com assigns a specific Certified Used Vehicle price to used cars that qualify for certification. This price will be higher than the dealer retail price. Use the TMV price as a benchmark for negotiations." According to Edmunds, Now it's time to price and negotiate to buy the certified used vehicle."
Finally, to help you drive off the lot with a little more security, make sure your pre-owned certified car is still under warranty. With all these tips you should be a little more knowledgeable the next time you go to test drive a certified pre-owned car.
