2012 Shaping Up to be a Great Year for Used Cars

Similar to 2011, 2012 is looking to be a great year for used cars. During 2011, almost 39 Million used cars were purchased, with Autofocus in Greensboro, NC contributing to that list.

"We saw a lot of people whose existing cars were just tired so, after two years of pent-up demand, that finally led to a surge of used car sales last year, and especially in November and December," added chief Spinella.1

During the last few months of 2011, private party sales or consumer-to-consumer sales surged. Buyers and sellers alike are now actively using free online services to post and browse for automobiles online. Dealers have also begun to employ websites for their dealerships, which help them promote and boost sales through the internet, adding to the new sales boom.

CNW chief Art Spinella had this to say about used car purchases, "[the] new phenomenon we've only noted since about 2008 (where) a lot of buyers who would normally choose a new car are going for what we call "transitional used cars" - vehicles they expect to keep until their personal finances improve."2
